Antique Diamonds

Old cut diamonds carry two histories — the one in the stone, and the one in the cut.

Antique Diamonds

A diamond cut by hand a century ago was not trying to maximize light return. It was cut for candlelight, for a lamp, for the slow turn of a hand across a table. Old mine and old European cuts have a softer fire — a warmth modern brilliants were engineered away from.

We buy small parcels of antique cuts whenever we can find them: stones between a quarter and a carat, already detached from their first lives. Under the loupe you can feel the cutter’s decisions — a slightly off-center table, a culet just visible to the eye, symmetry that is human rather than mathematical.

Each one becomes a one of a kind. We match the stone to the metal the way you would match a voice to a room. The ring that results is not an antique, exactly — it is a continuation.
